Reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions

The Plan

Since 2015 and especially following the Covid-19 pandemic that affected the world and the global markets and communities, GCE Global has created a clear plan to cut our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the coming years. It will allow us to contribute to the fight against climate change while building a cleaner, leaner and, more competitive business and group of companies.

Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is crucial for our group because the environmental impact of GHGs, particularly carbon dioxide, is a major contributor to climate change. As a responsible and sustainable business, it is essential for us to reduce our GHG emissions to mitigate the negative consequences of climate change and ensure a healthy and viable planet for future generations. Not only does reducing GHG emissions help protect the environment, but it also makes sound economic sense by promoting more efficient and sustainable practices, reducing costs, and enhancing our reputation as a socially responsible business.

For many companies, most emissions happen in four areas: electricity, heat, materials, and transportation. At GCE Global, we decided to focus on specific sources of emissions because this is where we are going to get the biggest results towards our emissions reduction and the best return on our investment.

As a service company, we have identified areas where we plan to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) for years to come.

Electricity

  • Green Energy Sources: When possible and for our physical offices, we plan on sourcing our energy from green sources such as wind and solar power. This will reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy sources and lower our carbon footprint.
  • Behaviour change & sharing information (turning off and unplugging appliances & equipment when we don’t need them, sharing with our team and collaborators about the environment challenges and solutions, etc.).
  • Efficient Equipment: We plan on replacing old, inefficient equipment with newer, more energy-efficient models. This will not only reduce our GHG emissions but also help us save on energy costs.

Capital investments

We plan to continue investing in climate technologies, marketing of green fuels, carbon offsetting, providing financing solutions and helping the development of clean energy projects, supporting the energy transition in Asia and on a global scale, etc.

Transportation

  • Remote Work: We introduced a remote work model many years ago where employees and collaborators can work from home. This has significantly cut down on travel emissions and it also has reduced our expenses and electricity costs, etc. as we no longer need satellite offices in many countries.
  • Business travel (We have already switched to web conferencing and virtual meetings for many years. We are also attending virtual events where business travels are no longer required to meet and network with market participants from different countries).

These measures will allow us to continue to contribute to the fight against climate change by reducing our GHG emissions and promoting a more sustainable business model. Additionally, it will allow us to build a leaner and more competitive business as we transition to a more energy-efficient and cost-effective operation.

By reducing our energy costs and improving our environmental impact, we hope to attract more customers, partners and collaborators who value sustainability and environmentally responsible practices.

Covid-19

covid-19 updates and measures

Updates on our preventive measures and business operations.

March 2023

With fewer case numbers, updated booster vaccines, and life seemingly returning to normal, some experts say that COVID-19 is still a “thing” in 2023 and should be taken seriously.

It is important to note that preventive measures related to Covid-19 are constantly evolving as the pandemic situation changes around the world. The preventive measures might also be different from one Country to another.

Current & general preventive measures recommended by some health authorities include vaccination, (wearing masks in public spaces), washing hands frequently, avoiding crowded indoor spaces, and practicing good respiratory hygiene. Washing hands properly is one of the most important and effective ways of stopping the spread of infections and illnesses.

It is advisable to keep up with the latest guidance and updates from reputable health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

June 2021

GCE Global team will continue to work remotely and have continued access to their phones, emails and other online communication tools in order to conduct and facilitate business operations. Please note that some of the satellite offices of the Group have been closed for an indefinite period. There will be no business travel until further notice, with very few exceptions, and no in-person company events.

We will continue to assess the situation and advise accordingly if there are changes and new updates.
Please send all documents via e-mail (not via post).
We will also be sending all documents via email.
Thank you for your understanding.

March 2020

Given recent recommendations from official Canadian, American, European and Asian authorities, and the recent transition from the coronavirus epidemic to the pandemic stage, GCE and its affiliates and subsidiaries would like to inform you of the measures implemented by the Company to ensure the safety of its team, limit the spread of the virus within and outside the GCE network, to comply with official recommendations from the authorities, and to ensure the continuity and prosperity of our business.

The safety of our team, their families and loved ones, as well as that of our customers, our international collaborators and business partners remains our main priority. We also want to offer our thoughts and support to all those who have to deal with the impacts of contamination within their own organization or those around them.

We want to assure all clients and business partners of the Company that we have been following the evolution of the situation for several weeks when it first started in Hubei Province (China) and that a business continuity plan has been put in place quickly with our team and our collaborators in Asia to ensure that we maintain the level service that our customers and collaborators expect, especially with regard to managing the impact of this spread and the situation caused by it.

We are able to continue operations, whether on the premises with enhanced sanitary measures or remotely in a safe manner.

We have already established for many years now the possibility for our employees and collaborators to work remotely. Although we love meeting face to face, we conduct most meetings with customers, international collaborators and business partners by conference call or virtual conference. In specific cases and businesses, the Company is represented by lawyers and/or collaborators and business partners who are authorize to meet customers on our behalf.

Briefly, here are the preventive measures that we have implemented and that we will continue to adjust according to the circumstances:

  • All business trips outside of Canada, regardless of destination, have been canceled or postponed until further notice. This includes travel planned for client meetings, business partners meetings and/or for participation in conferences or other professional events.
  • All personal trips outside, regardless of the destination, are subject to the usual recommendations of the official authorities and are subject to precautionary measures (voluntary isolation or other) before any return to work.
  • We asked our team and international collaborators to conduct all meetings with customers or business partners by conference call or virtual conference.
  • In the event that a business meeting must take place in person in an exceptional way, the Company might be represented by our legal team, technical team, trading team or other who will be authorized to represent the Company.

The measures described above are part of a collective prevention effort. We remain at your service for all your needs and business is being taken care of as usual even during this more challenging global situation.

Information and Recommandations

Self-check

Some Taiwanese experts has provided in 2020 a simple self-check function that we can do every morning. Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If treatment is successfully completed without coughing, discomfort, stiffness, or tightness, it indicates no fibrosis in the lungs and basically indicates no infection. At the critical moment, please do self-check every morning in the fresh air environment.

ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS

1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold

2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.

3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.

4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.

5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours – so if you come into contact with any metal surface – wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.

6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.

7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.

8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but – a lot can happen during that time – you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.

9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.

10. Can’t emphasis enough – drink plenty of water!

THE SYMPTOMS

-1. It will first infect the throat, so you’ll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days

2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.

3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.

4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you’re drowning. It’s imperative you then seek immediate attention.
